Nurse Residency Opportunities!

The next Nurse Residency application cycle will open on May 4, 2026.

Please refer to the application dates regarding the upcoming cycle. Due to the highly competitive nature of our program, all new graduates and registered nurses with less than one year of experience must adhere to the specified application deadlines. Please apply to all positions you’re interested in at the same time. This helps us review applications and schedule interviews more efficiently.

Application Instructions

1. Select the application link and follow the instructions.

2. Be prepared to answer the following questions within the application.

What interests you about joining (or continuing to work on) our team at Billings Clinic and what expectations and/or reservations do you have being part of the Nurse Residency Program?
Leadership is very important at Billings Clinic; Please provide examples of how you have demonstrated leadership.
What quality or skill do you feel separates you from other applicants?
What are your 2-5 year goals in nursing?
What department or nursing unit interests you the most and why?
If you are not selected for employment on your preferred unit or department, what other two departments or units interest you? (If applicable)
Is there one department or nursing unit you would like to avoid? Why?

3. Attach resume to application.

Application Deadlines

Billings Clinic offers spring, summer, and fall cohort start dates. Nurse Residency is highly competitive, so we strictly adhere to the application deadlines. Early and/or late submissions will not be accepted.

New graduate nurses with less than 12 months of experience must participate in the nurse residency program.

New Grad Opportunities

All unit-specific RNs are expected to work day/night shift rotations unless otherwise specified. All RNs are expected to work weekend and holiday rotations. Placement in preferred unit is not guaranteed, so we encourage you to apply to multiple opportunities.

Nurse Residency Program

The Billings Clinic Nurse Residency program supports newly registered nurses through the transition from student to competent professional nurse during the first year of practice. The one-year program provides graduate nurses with the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver competent, safe, and effective patient-centered care. Nurse Residents are full-time employees who are eased into the role of professional nurse under the guidance and support of:

Unit preceptors
Education Development Specialists
Unit Management Teams
Nurse Resident Specialists

Nursing Externship

Elevate your student nursing experience with our Nurse Externship program! We hold two nursing externship cycles per year - one over winter break and another over summer break.

You must be able to commit to the entirety of the program. You will work up to full-time (32-40 hours per week). Usually three 12-hour shifts while following your preceptor's schedule with 100% attendance required. May include working days, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or rotating shifts.

The next nursing extern cycle will open in early spring. This program is eligible to current nursing students graduating in Summer 2026, Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. Click here to be added to our mailing list for notifications regarding our upcoming extern opportunities.

The program will include 1 week of orientation and 5 weeks of clinical rotation.

If a current employee, you must speak with your current manager prior to applying to determine if your current position will be held for your return at the end of the program, should you be selected. You will be required
to maintain and complete educational items and skills training as well as satisfying requirements of RN extern program.
